First Weeks After Planting
Right after planting, steady watering is crucial. Aim for about one bucket of water per week per tree, keeping the soil consistently moist. If the leaves begin to wilt, the tree needs more water—adjust as needed so the foliage stays healthy.
Weeks 3 to 8
As the roots begin to establish, continue regular watering to support strong early growth. Check the soil frequently; keeping it moist (not dry) helps the tree anchor itself and prepares it for rapid height gains.
Months 2 to 4
As growth accelerates, keep the base of the tree free from weeds, grass, or unwanted vegetation. Remove anything that competes for moisture or nutrients, either by pulling or lightly hoeing. Herzog Trees respond extremely well to water—during this stage, more water generally means faster growth.
After 4 Months and Long-Term Care
Once established, the tree requires very little care. Water during dry spells or periods of intense heat to maintain steady growth. If insects appear, a simple leaf-safe spray applied directly to the leaves will take care of them without harming the tree.
